Helper FAQs

About MumsHelper

What is MumsHelper?

MumsHelper is a local platform connecting independent “helpers” with mums who need short-term, practical support — like babysitting, household help, or a few hours of childcare.

What kind of work would I be doing?

Helpers provide non-medical, family support — such as minding children, light household tasks, or running errands. You choose what services you’re comfortable offering.

Getting Started

Who can become a Helper?

Anyone over 18 with a valid ABN, legal right to work in Australia, and a genuine interest in supporting local families.

Do I need experience?

Experience with children or families is preferred but not always required. Your tier and visibility depend on your background, qualifications, and checks.

What checks or documents do I need?

Requirements depend on your tier:

Bronze: Police Check

Silver: Police Check + verified experience

How do I apply for an ABN?

You can apply free online at abr.gov.au. It usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you need help, email contact@mumshelper.com.au and one of our dedicated representatives will send you a guide.

I’m on a Working Holiday Visa — can I still help?

Yes! You can apply for an ABN and work as an independent contractor, provided you follow Australian tax laws and visa conditions.

Payments & Tax

How do payments work?

Payments are processed through MumsHelper. Once you complete a shift, funds are released to your bank account (minus a small platform commission).

How much can I earn?

Hourly rates depend on your tier: higher levels (with checks and qualifications) typically earn more. Rates range from approximately $20–$30/hour.

Do I need to pay tax?

Yes — as an ABN holder, you’re self-employed and responsible for your own tax. You’ll declare your earnings at tax time. No PAYG is withheld by MumsHelper.

Do I need to charge GST?

Not unless you earn over $75,000/year. Most helpers won’t need to register for GST.

Bookings & Scheduling

How do I get bookings?

Families submit requests describing the help they need. MumsHelper matches them with suitable Helpers, and you choose which jobs to accept.

Can I choose my hours?

Absolutely — you decide when, where, and how often you work.

What if I can’t make a shift?

Notify the family and MumsHelper as soon as possible. Frequent cancellations may affect your rating or visibility.

Is there a minimum number of hours I must work?

No — you can take on as many or as few bookings as you like.

Safety & Standards

How does MumsHelper keep things safe?

All Helpers go through verification checks and families agree to respectful conduct. You can report concerns anytime — we take safety seriously.

Do I need insurance?

We strongly recommend having public liability insurance to cover your work as a contractor.

What happens if a mum cancels last minute?

Our cancellation policy protects Helpers from short-notice cancellations. Details are outlined in your Helper Agreement.

Support & Feedback

How do reviews work?

Families can rate and review Helpers after each booking. Positive feedback helps build your reputation and attract more work.

Who do I contact if I have a problem?

You can reach the MumsHelper support team anytime at hello@mumshelper.com.au for issues, safety concerns, or booking questions.
